The Leadership Experience |
The leader that inspires me and who I would model my leadership behind is Bill Gates. He is known by many people to be a expert at what he does, as that is key to being a leader. Gates is a very caring person and truly wants to help develop countries throughout the world. He shows many leadership styles in his life and it has been very key to his success.
Leadership Styles of Bill Gates:
Transformational Leadership
This type of leadership is one that Gates has. He is always bringing a wide range of knowledge and thoughts to better his team. Having this type of leadership makes you have a focus on change. As Bills brings a vision of his own, providing a better view of what exactly needs to be done.
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation: This is a foundation set up by Bill Gates and his wide. The main goal of this organization is to enhance health care and reduce extreme poverty. Gates is trying to provide change in the world while explaining a broad view of what needs to be done. While travelling to cities and different universities to promote his foundation brings in awareness and delegating responsibility throughout.
Order of the Aztec Eagle: Bill Gates has won many awards in his career. As this on stood out for his excellence in helping the health and education in North America.
Task-Oriented
This is a leadership that will typically get things done. The problem with being this type of leader is that you can be a little pushy and controlling of what needs to be done. It can also be seen as an autocratic leadership. Taking control and independent decision making. If you aren't good at what your are doing, the leader will not hesitate to bring you away from that task. As Gates has done much of this throughout his career, he would not be where he is today if he listened to other people. He took his own ideas and then forced them to be done in a certain way. Gates is very particular in what he does, as this brings out the task-oriented in him.
Microsoft: Gates is the founder and developer of Microsoft. He came out with an idea, and presented it in his particular way. Clear on what needed to be done and where exactly it was going to take you. Gates will firmly take control of each situation and give you as much encouragement as possible, rather you aren't doing something correct, he will let you know. Microsoft would not be where it is today if Gates was not task-oriented.
Steve Ballmer: Gates right hand man. He put into effect that his partner must have a signed expense sheet. This brings in that Gates wants to take control of what is going on. It also proves that he does not trust anyone and he is consistent even with his partner.
Conclusion: Overall I feel Bill Gates presents himself in the correct manor. He is always willing to help and generate ideas throughout any of his organizations. I admire where he got himself today due to his hard work and dedication. I would really like to emulate his leadership style of task oriented, I feel this is one of the best ways to get a task done. Bill has proved that it works, and I will look forward to using it in my life situations. As it made Bill a better person, it would open the doors to many more opportunities.
